Med 8,5 på Pitchfork för nyligen släppta albumet Anxiety är Arthur Ashins soloprojekt Autre Ne Veut tämligen givet som en av årets mest ombuzzade indieakter. ”Failure Pop” är den rätt underbara benämning Ashins musik förärats, en distinkt personlig hybrid av pop och R&B. Intellektuell och minitiuös, dynamisk och passionerad. Tidigare rätt avig och lite svår att bli bekant med, Anxiety är mognare och mer lättillgänglig, fortfarande med vassa kanter men flödar av melodier och smarta hooks.
Live hamnar naturligt Ashers falsettsång i fokus och texterna, där relationer och existentiella dilemman filtreras genom ett intellekt uppbackat bland annat av en magisterexamen i psykologi. Inte sällan sex, som lust och som ångest. ”I’m not afraid to sing about sex, but it’s more about the anxieties and frustrations of trying to relate to other people in this world, or to accomplish the things that I want to accomplish.”
